The purpose why you're not having fantastical dogfights in World of Warcraft: Anger of the Lich Expert right now lies in the science. As in, it wasn't refined enough. That's what WoW's Tom Chilton exposed in the newest Blizzard podcast.
If you look at a lot of games that have done journey simulator, there is a lot of care that goes into providing you that feeling of traveling by having the earth tilt etc so it seems a little less mechanical, seems a little bit more alive or natural.
So one of the factors that we have type of tasked ourselves with doing is figuring out how to polish that, how to enhance on our vehicle science, there's still a lot ofvehicle science tech that we want to get in that didn’t make it into the first pass of Lich Expert.
Even though it may have been cut, antenna battle may still discover its way into WoW at some point, as Chilton also said that it's currently on Blizzard's to do record.
The same podcast also featured senior Diablo III specialist Scott Nicholson, who admitted that the new UI for Diablo 3 drew a lot of inspiration from WoW's UI. Oh really? I hadn't noticed and am now so get over with shock at this unexpected revelation!
Seriously though, the UI still retains well-known components from the Diablo series while throwing in some WoW staples into the mix. One factor that will definitely capture fans' sight - for better or more intense - is the inclusion of WoW's colorful symbols. Here's Nicholson:
I really like the WoW symbols. And you know what we're trying to do is see, OK, what performs about the WoW icons? They’re illustrative; is there a way to try to maybe bridge the gap? You know what proved beneficial about the more symbolic DII symbols, and what performs with the WoW symbols, and trying to find a way to put the two together.
Another new factor is the inclusion of expandable hand bags. This informs me more of the D&D staple Bags of Having which showed up in Neverwinter Nights than anything in WoW really. Nicholson again:
You'll get hand bags and they will increase, you know type of like in WoW, except you're not going to start up separate windows. You'll start off your stock with say…you know, eight spots, right, and then you'll get a new bag and that has ten, so two more spots will start up within that tab, but you'll never have multiple an eye like you won't have two or three 'large' an eye.
